How to Choose Jewelry for Your Girlfriend or Wife
There's nothing like surprising your partner with a great gift and when you pair that with the value of jewelry you've got a combo for the perfect gift. If you want to get her something that says "I know you", you're in the right place.
The fact that you're doing research just shows that you care, that's step number one! Well done!
I'm here to make this easy peasy for you, I’ve worked in jewelry sales for many many years. In fact I've been helping out in my family’s jewelry store since I was a kid (this jewelry store). In that time I've gotten very good at helping my customers find the perfect gifts for their loved ones.
Now that you know my credentials I will list things to look for.
*In this I ask a lot of questions. It's okay if you don't know all the answers, even just a few can point you in the correct direction and give you enough info.
*If she doesn't have any jewelry or you don't know skip down to the next section.
Look at What She Already Has
The easiest way to shop for a person when it comes to aesthetics is to look for things within their style. If your partner already has a collection of jewelry this will make your job easier. You’re gonna need to be a bit of an undercover agent here, you need to look for pictures of her wearing jewelry or her jewelry in general to do this. Take note of the following things:
Complete the set
Let's say, for example, she has earrings and a ring of the same stone, look for a bracelet that features that stone as well. Or If she has a diamond ring, get her diamond earrings. This tip can save you a lot of time and it's as easy as it gets.
Example:
Type of Metal: Gold, Silver, Rose Gold...
Gold: Keep in mind that within gold there are a few shades; there's regular yellow, white gold which looks like silver and rose gold that has a more pinkish orange look. People often have a preference.
Stones
Do they have a favorite stone? Do you notice the same color stone more than once? If they do it might be their birthstone.
Example:
Diamond is April's Birthstone
14 Karat White Gold Diamond Studs
Charms
If she has a charm collection, charm bracelet/necklace consider adding to it. I recommend picking something that represents your relationship, a nice memory together, or one of her interests.
Example:
What does she wear the most?
It’s okay if you can't remember! You can look at photos from social media or your phone. If she has a lot of jewelry this will help you figure out what she likes the most.
Large or Delicate
Note if her preference leans strongly in one of these directions.
Statement, Large, Wide, Chunky vs. Lowkey, Small, Fine, Delicate, Skinny.
Specific Details: Design Details
Do notice themes like flowers, nature, hearts?
About Her
Incorporating an interest or personal detail of hers into your decision making will give your gift a deeper meaning.
Culture
Is she proud of her culture, religion or curious about their ancestry? we have some culturally specific items like:
Gold and Diamond Star of David Charm
Gold Irish Claddagh Bangle Bracelet
Hobbies
Sometimes you can find jewelry that represents hobbies, most commonly charms are made to look like little objects, like instruments or animals.
Gold Necklace with Ancient Greek Symbol for Unity and Infinity
Pay attention
If she shows you something remember it, If you see her online and she scrolls to a photo of jewelry try to remember because in this instance the algorithm is your friend.
If she has a Pinterest you hit the jackpot. Pinterest is all about recording your aesthetic. She probably even has a jewelry page on her account where she puts photos of jewelry she likes.
Just ask:
"Hey, what would you say your aesthetic is?" or "What aesthetic do you like the most, I like streetwear (or whatever you like).
Simple but effective.
