Abelardo lived an extraordinary and inspiring life best characterized by a sense of righteous perseverance in the face of intense adversity. Even as a child, he worked extremely hard to help his parents support his family. A deeply entrepreneurial man he owned two small businesses in Colombia, before moving to the United States. Upon arriving in Connecticut Abelardo fought to be successful and take care of his family. He worked long hours in many jobs, never letting the language barrier slow him down. He truly defined the hard working family man. 

In 1991, at the age of 58 he opened Lozada Jewelry, his family-run business, on Park Street in Hartford, with the help of his wife Nelly and kids who still own and operate it today. It has since become a staple of the Latino community in the city. He spent the last decades of his life working tirelessly and serving his community. the Spanish American Merchants Association, awarded him its Merchant of the Year award in 2005. As hard as he worked, Abelardo also took the time to enjoy life. He was a fan of professional soccer, but his true joy in life was spending as much time as possible with his family and friends.
